Interning at The Business Council for International Understanding, According to Endicott Student Patrick Baron

Patrick Baron, a Political Science major and Spanish minor at Endicott College, spent the fall of his senior year interning at the Business Council for International Understanding in Washington, DC through the Washington Internship Institute. We reached out after he finished his internship to hear more about his experience:

“I worked at the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU). BCIU is a nonpartisan, U.S.-based organization that works to expand international trade and commerce. It does this by helping its member companies engage internationally and by facilitating mutually beneficial relationships between business and government leaders worldwide.

“While interning for BCIU, I was responsible for supporting corporate development, engaging in sales outreach, conducting research on different markets, and helping create summaries after roundtable discussions. The last project I completed during my internship was to build a program from scratch to engage three U.S. governors. For the project, I was responsible for developing letters to send to the governor’s staff, creating and building programs through a CRM, and registering BCIU members for the roundtables.

“My favorite aspect about interning last semester was working in the heart of Washington D.C. I had the opportunity to meet new people and explore new challenges. I also had the chance to live with students from all over the country, which was a fantastic experience.

From my experience working with professionals in the public and private sector, I was able to gain an understanding of how each sector interacts with each other. In the future, I hope to bridge the gap between the public and private sector in order to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship. If you have the chance to intern in Washington D.C., I would explore every opportunity that it has to offer.”
